Eastport - Megan Bier Venskus, age 31, died of post-transplant proliferative lymphona on March 17, 2015, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. Megan is survived by her mother, Carolee N. She is preceded in death by John P. and Lucille A. Megan was born on October 7, 1983, in Carbondale, Illinois. She graduated from Christian Fellowship High School in Du Quoin, Illinois, in 2002. Following graduation she moved to Maine. She attended the University of Maine - Farmington and the University of Maine - Augusta, receiving her Bachelor's Degree. She worked as a CRMA in Augusta and Bangor while attending college. She was teaching at Eastport Elementary School where she taught 6th and 7th grade mathematics until her death. She had recently received her Massachusetts Middle School, General Science, Teaching Certificate, and had hoped to move to the Boston area near college friends.
She loved teaching and she loved all of her students in the Philippines and at Eastport Elementary School. She enjoyed the relationships she formed with the teachers and staff at both schools, and appreciated the mentoring she was given. She loved science and was particularly interested in astronomy. Megan also loved art and music. She made her acting debut with Stage East on December 31, 2014. She was a generous and loving person, who took great joy in all that life offered. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, April 11 at 3:00PM at the Eastport Arts Center. A reception will follow the service at the Arts Center. Rev. Lynn Rutledge will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Megan's life. The family would like to thank the community of Eastport for their friendship, support, and all of their kindnesses, during this difficult time.
